"Jefferson Beauregard Lee" Contributes a Comment

At In Between Naps

A very interesting comment has been posted at Amy Welborn's blog, in reply to another comment about "pro-choice" individuals being "mistakenly" identified as "pro-abortion":

.... Many years ago I too suffered as a consequence of such lax reasoning. People assumed that because I believed that the federal government should not be in the business of telling people whether or not they could own slaves, that I was somehow pro-slavery. Of course, I wasn't; I was was pro-choice. I never owned slaves and felt it would be wrong to do so, but I was not so arrogant as to tell other people whether slave ownership was right for them. Yet I was villified by the morally self-righteous who were unable to make the sophisticated distinctions necessary for such weighty matters. It does seem that Americans are more sophisticated today, though, so my colleagues are encouraged.
