A Letter to Bishop Murray

A reader has shared with me her letter to the bishop of Kalamazoo:

Dear Bishop Murray:

I have learned, via the Internet, that Fr. Johansen has been served notice of a lawsuit by Michael Rose. It's shame that someone who choses to speak his piece about the current church scandal via publishing would try to deny his critics the same right. I haven't read Good-Bye, Good Men and would have no way of knowing if Rose is accurate or not. But, those who are in a position to know and/or respond or to critique Rose's reasoning should not be intimidated into remaining silent. Fr. Johansen, in his weblog, seems to be solid and sensible and faithful to the Church. We need good priests to lead us - via the parish or the Internet.

We older folk didn't get a slap from the bishop at Confirmation for nothing - courage is necessary to stand for the truth. Let the debate continue.
