A Reader Writes to Leila Miller
The reader quoted below has shared with me her letter to Leila Miller, author of "I Was Robbed!" The Return of a Prodigal Daughter.
Thank you, Leila, for your powerful witness. I agree with every word -- I remember telling our new priest, and now the bishop of a diocese, that the sophomores my husband and I were teaching in CCD to were ignorant of any knowledge of the Faith and that they were being offered silly pap. It was as if I had spoken to a wall.
My husband and I were swept up with the openness of Vatican II, but the course of change has moved to an almost total acceptance of secular culture with all the politically correct, anti-America, and certainly anti-Catholic attitudes of the leftist secular humanist elites of Western Civilization.
I am guilty of finding excuses to use contraception after having four children in five years. I also thought and argued, " Why not women priests?" Now I hear of and have witnessed some shocking behavior by dissenting nuns and wonder what sort of priests these women would have been.
I have been increasingly stunned at the attitudes and beliefs of "Catholic" young women I have met at work over the past twenty years. Now my Catholic friends in their 60's and 70's astound me with their Protestant attitudes. I attribute a great deal of this change in the older women to the influence of
the media and their willingness to change so that they don't have to grieve over their children's behaviors and life choices.
I helped to promote the very horror we are now experiencing. I have started to abstain from meat on Fridays in reparation. Maybe if we all pray humbly and mortify ourselves, God will not only forgive us, but shower graces on our spiritually suffering world. Mary promised that at Fatima.
