John McCain: What a Disappointment

To mainstream media, that is.

I was amazed when I caught on C-SPAN some of Sen. McCain's speech on the failure of the "containment" policy towards Iraq. Why? Because I have neither seen nor heard nor read anything about it — a major, a masterful, speech given last Thursday.

Okay, it's not an election year. And, okay, it's snowing a lot in the Northeast. But call me Mr. Cynic and allow me to proffer the notion that an address by Sen. McCain — "a man whose every word and syllable and breath are reported widely whenever he is 'maverick' or 'independent' or 'principled' enough to criticize George W. Bush" — this address, blogged here earlier, by John McCain would likely have achieved immediate notoriety in mainstream media if he had not committed the following politically incorrect mortal sins:

  1. did not bash George W. Bush;
  2. excused George H. W. Bush for his failure to eliminate Saddam Hussein in 1991;
  3. spoke respectfully of Ronald Reagan and his role in the downfall of the Soviet Union;
  4. pilloried Bill Clinton and his administration for critical blunders WRT Iraq;
  5. hammered France; and,
  6. slammed Germany, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.

The Arizona cowboy: what a disappointment he must be.

P.S. I see now that this speech was quoted in The Corner — but who could tell?
