"Pope Found To Be Catholic"

A cool takedown of some Protestant reactions to the pope's latest encyclical, from Episcopalian blogger Christopher Johnson:

.... With the readership's kind indulgence, the fiercely Protestant editor of this enterprise would like to interject a word here. Duh! When you believe that Jesus is really there in the bread and the wine, it is difficult to see what you could possibly share with people who, well, don't. Seems to me that you'd be cutting the doctrinal ground out from under your feet which is exactly what many of these Protestants seem to want....
One might point out that the Pope's "burning desire" to celebrate the Eucharist with other Christians might possibly be an intense longing for Protestants to see Eucharistic things Rome's way. One might also observe that Rome still takes the Eucharist seriously enough that it will not give it to just anybody. One could observe all these things if one weren't a particularly clueless Protestant theologian.

Also, pro deo et patria (which, in case you didn't realize, is the weblog of a former Lutheran minister now Catholic) has had some really good blogs on the subject lately.

By the way, the article quoted at Midwest Conservative Journal contains the following lie (yes, lie): "The encyclical, an authoritative explanation or teaching on important church doctrine, also reminded church members that divorced Roman Catholics who remarry may not receive communion." The encyclical makes no mention whatever of marriage, divorce, or remarriage.
