A Double Anniversary Today

I was received into full communion with the Catholic Church 28 years ago today, Thursday, October 9, 1975.

See Happy Anniversary to Me!

Ven. John Henry Newman was received into full communion with the Catholic Church 158 years ago today, Thursday, October 9, 1845.

See Happy Anniversary to Cardinal Newman!

Prayers for this day:

Father in heaven, God of power and Lord of mercy, from whose fullness we have received, direct our steps in our everyday efforts. May the changing moods of the human heart and the limits which our failings impose on hope never blind us to you, source of every good. Faith gives us the promise of peace and makes known the demands of love. Remove the selfishness that blurs the vision of faith. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. (Mass of the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time, Liturgy of the Hours, Volume IV, Sunday and Weekday Prayers, p. 50)
God and Father of all gifts, we praise you, the source of all we have and are. Teach us to acknowledge always the many good things your infinite love has given us. Help us to love you with all our heart and all our strength. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Mass of Thanksgiving, Liturgy of the Hours, Volume IV, Appendix III, p. 1977)

Psalms for this day: Psalm 40, Psalm 103, and Psalm 139.

P.S. Thanks to Gerard and N‚rwen.
