FWIW, I think the pope said it. I think the archbishop was distraught to find out that the pope was being quoted around the world, and he decided it was better to deny the truth than to let the pope's words be taken as some sort of "official" endorsement of a movie — many people, alas, being unable to understand that the pope can actually have a merely personal, private opinion.
