Gerard Manley Hopkins The Catholic convert, Jesuit priest, and poet died 115 years ago today. At the time (1914?) of this Catholic Encyclopedia article, Hopkins was known to the wider world only through a few carefully selected poems that his friend and first editor, Robert Bridges, had gotten into some late Victorian anthologies. Bartleby has the first edition of his Poems (1918). Lane Core Jr. CIW P Tue. 06/08/04 07:35:57 AM |
