Bill Frist Cringes

Alan Keyes enters the US senatorial race in Illinois.

Finally, an exciting race somewhere.

Tell me, Faithful Reader, who do you think would be more unhappy to have Alan Keyes as the junior senator from Illinois?

  1. Richard Durban, a Democrat elected in 2002, who will become the senior senator from Illinois in the next Congress.
  2. The minority (that is, Democratic) leadership in the US Senate in the next Congress.
  3. The majority (that is, Republican) leadership in the US Senate in the next Congress.

I vote for 3.

Can you imagine the likes of Bill Frist, Trent Lott, and Orrin Hatch wanting to deal — to have to deal — with an intelligent, articulate, principled, conservative man of conviction in their midst?

Neither can I.
