Re: The Stunning French? Concerning this, a reader writes: I think I heard the same line ascribed to an Austrian diplomat during the 19th Century. Russia had helped re-establish the Hapsburgs after some dust-up. When Russia found itself in some problem or other the diplomat commented that "We shall stun the world with our ingratitude."
