Tell Gov. Bush to Help Terri Schindler Schiavo Sunnye has started a petition to ask President George W. Bush to intervene to spare Terri's life. I don't think, however, it's any business of the president to interfere. (One of the problems we're dealing with is that government officials don't know the proper limits of their authority.) I do think it's the business of the governor to intervene to save the life of an innocent. One of the reasons we have governors is to stand up to unjust judges. No? Here is a Catholic Answers E-mail Message providing a lot of information, including contact information for Florida's governor, Jeb Bush: E-mail: jeb.bush@myflorida.com And Oswald Sobrino blogged a terrific essay yesterday at Catholic Analysis. Here follows my e-mail to the governor. Dear Governor Bush: I urge you to stand up for the life of Terri Schindler Schiavo. Nobody has an obligation to obey an unjust law, nor does anybody have any obligation to obey an unjust judicial ruling. Where would the civil rights movement in this country have gotten had nobody defied unjust laws or judges? One of the reasons we have governors, Gov. Bush, is to stand up to judges when they overstep their bounds. What kind of systems of checks & balances is it if judges always have the last word? Stand up for Terri, Gov. Bush. Stand up for the separation of powers. Stand up for the authority of your own office as chief executive of the state. Stand up for justice. Stand up for Terri.
