What About the President's Other Approval Rating? Aren't there supposed to be two of them? I understand that, lately, the president's approval rating has been pretty low. (Especially when the pollsters oversample Democrats. But I digress.) But what about his other approval rating? Back when the country discovered for sure circa 1998 that Bill Clinton was (was?) a lying, womanizing slimeball, all the news reports were very, very, very careful to note that while his "personal approval" rating was in the toilet where it belonged (belonged?) Clinton's "job approval" rating was pretty rock solid. Heck, ABC was still talking about Clinton's "job approval" vs. his "personal approval" as late as October 2000: .... Clinton’s career job approval peaked at 69 percent shortly after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke in January 1998. Its lowest was 43 percent, just five months after he took office and before the fruits of economic recovery reached Main Street. In Clinton’s case, of course, a high job approval rating isn’t the same as a high personal approval rating. In an ABCNEWS/Washington Post poll this week, 64 percent approved of Clinton’s policies — but only 35 percent had a favorable opinion of him personally.... Now that another president's "approval rating" has sunk pretty low, it's merely his "approval rating", not his "job approval" rating or his "personal approval" rating. Just one rating now. Not two. Why do you think that is, Faithful Reader? P.S. Thanks. Lane Core Jr. CIW P Thu. 09/22/05 08:02:54 PM |
