Today, the Roman Church celebrates the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles.

Praesta, quaesumus, omnipotens Deus, ut nullis nos permittas perturbationibus concuti, quos in apostolicae confessionis petra solidasti. Per Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum Filium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitate Spiritus Sancti, Deus, per omnia saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Grant, we pray you, Almighty God, that you allow us to be shaken by no disturbance, whom you made solid in the rock of apostolic confession. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, through all ages of ages. Amen. "Summer Day's Course"

One of my poems turns Sweet Sixteen today.

Summer Day's Course

(June 29, 1990)

Height
of summer,
hard the heat
at height of day;
then hard the rain, wild,
thunder-driven drench during evening's long approach,
shrouding the town with fog come night.
The streetlights top white pyramids, diaphanous,
wedges of the ground-hugging cloud
muffling sound, baffling sight,
while mosquitoes hum,
alight, and
bite.
