Palin the Discombobulator

Smart move, John McCain picking Sarah Palin for his running mate.

The Democrats' disappointment over Obama having chosen Biden — who, for practical purposes, has lived his adult life as a Washington insider — was palpable. (Only 6% of the convention delegates, I noticed, would have chosen Biden for the VP spot.) What was Biden's one saving grace? (So to speak.) He's an "attack dog"! A lovable doofus of an attack dog, I guess.

Obama's campaign was loading up for bear. But the other side brought out a tigress* instead. And the attack dog has been neutered.

Similarly palpable was the Democrats' discombobulation by Palin. The wind got knocked out of their sails right quick. I saw a couple of Democratic pundits on TV yesterday evening: both failed miserably to conceal their profound discouragement.

But maybe they'll get lucky next week and Hurricane Gustav will knock the Republican National Convention out of first place in the news. What a relief that would be, too, to all the Democrats at CNN and MSNBC, especially.

* Here, I originally wrote "gazelle"; I didn't know what would work better. After The Speech, it seemed that "tigress" would work better. :-)
